Here is my written submission for the Quest One prompt for Elle! :>
Elle stumbled over a small stubborn tree root, which may have been only a slight inconvenience for people who had a sense of balance, but for Elle, who fell over if the breeze blew too hard, swung her arms wildly to stay upright. After dramatically reeling forward, she straightened herself and let out a sigh of relief, before continuing to go further into the Eclaire Woods.
“Go into the forest they said, find something edible they said,” Elle grumbled to herself as she walked. “It’ll be easy they said, have they met me?? I’ve almost ingested poisonous mushrooms five times now!”
Elle held a small piece of paper with suggested edible foods she could find, of which she’d chosen to collect the acorns and the wild mint, but she avoided any of the berries or mushrooms. Elle had almost decided to take some wild honey she’d found but didn’t want to disturb or steal from the hardworking bees.
After passing by multiple groups of mushrooms and berry bushes, Elle decided to take a break on a tree stump, trying desperately to see if there were any other edible foods that Elle hadn’t almost ingested poisonous versions of. Nearly admitting defeat, Elle almost started to walk back to the Teacup Scouts meeting point before she saw a robin flitter past her and peck at a bush of wild blackberries. Elle carefully approached the little bird, who had a bright red face framed by black and cream feathers, who twittered at her musically, even hopping onto Elle’s outstretched finger.
“These are definitely safe to eat?” She asked out loud, not expecting the robin to chirp at her once more in encouragement. Hesitantly, Elle twisted off a fat, juicy blackberry and took a bite of it, her eyes lighting up at the sharp, sweet taste. She excitedly picked a dozen, carefully placing them in her basket, eating some as she picked them.
Elle said a quick “Thank you!” to the robin, who was also eating their fill of the juicy blackberries, before Elle started to run back to the Teacup Scouts camp.
… which she would regret for doing so soon after eating so many blackberries.
